The City of Columbia will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 9, 2012 at 11 a.m. for the new City Center Parking Garage at the corner of Taylor and Sumter Street, scheduled to open to the public Monday, August 13, 2012.

Located on the northwest corner of Taylor and Sumter streets, the park deck has a capacity of 532 cars with short term parking on the first floor and first ramp and monthly customer parking on level two and above.

Short term parkers in the garage will be the first in Columbia to use new pay by space machines which will take coins, credit cards and SmartCards. SmartCards are available for purchase at a number of merchants; at City offices at 1136 Washington St. and at Parking Services at 820 Washington St.

The new garage features six levels of parking and a beautified pedestrian path from the garage to the 1600 block of Main Street.

Designed by the architectural firm of LS3P Associates, Ltd., the parking deck was built by Contract Construction, headquartered in Ballentine.

The garage was constructed with funds from a parking revenue bond. No tax dollars were used in the construction.

Persons interested in renting monthly spaces in the garage may contact City Parking Services at 545-4015 or in person at 820 Washington St. Rates are $65 for unreserved spaces and $85 for reserved spaces. Hourly rates for the first level are 75 cents per hour.

*Parking will be available in the garage.
